Ghana’s qualifying campaign begins this month with two key games: a home match against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12 and a match against the Central African Republic in Morocco on October 8.

Just four points from these matches will guarantee the four-time African champions a spot in the world championship in the US, Mexico, and Canada.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder said in an interview with Sports Illustrated that while the disappointment of missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations still aches, the team’s attention is now squarely on qualifying for the World Cup.

Kudus uttered,

Naturally, one of the main competitions that the nation enjoys and wishes to compete in is AFCON. It was disappointing not to qualify, but I believe that the World Cup qualifiers are now the main emphasis.

Wearing the national shirt continues to be a source of great pride for the 25-year-old star.

He went on,

I believe that you are a one-time representative of your nation. For me, that is the one with the most emotion and sentiment. Wearing the jersey with great pride means a lot.

Kudus made it clear what the team’s goal was: “We must qualify at any costs.” Our current course seems to be correct.

The midfielder also talked about Ghana’s amazing run at the 2010 World Cup, in which the Black Stars advanced to the quarterfinals, and he said he thinks the current team can top that accomplishment.

We advanced to the quarterfinals in 2010. And I think this team is capable of even more. But before we can concentrate on the competition itself, we must first qualify.

With 19 points already leading Group I, Ghana needs just four more to guarantee their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
