Mahama is an incompetent nice man – Bawumia jabs

The Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia has described former president John Mahama as one who is unfit for the presidency, although he agrees with many who say he [Mahama] is a nice man.

Dr Bawumia believes Ghana needs someone who is capable of managing the country’s affairs and as far as he is concerned, Mr Mahama who he describes as “incompetent” does not make the cut.

“People say that John Mahama is a nice man. Oh yes, he may be a nice man but he is a nice man who if you give the economy, very soon, you cannot get teacher trainee allowance, nurses trainee allowance, pay your child’s school fees, get a job to do, agriculture will be declining, electricity prices will be going up.

“Is this the kind of nice man we want? He may be a nice man but he is an incompetent nice man” he said while addressing the governing New Patriotic Party’s supporters at a National Youth Rally in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

This is the latest attack Dr Bawumia has launched on the former president.

Two weeks ago, he challenged John Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to show a single policy they left behind in the northern belt before leaving office.

He stated that the former president had been in office as president for over four years and before that, he had the privilege of becoming a vice president for a similar term yet had nothing to show for it.

The NDC responded on behalf of their aspiring presidential candidate with a litany of projects and social intervention programmes that were undertaken during Mahama’s tenure.

But Dr Bawumia wants Ghanaians to reject the former president in 2020 and choose the NPP as they have performed much better than the previous Mahama administration.

He said it was sad how the former president mismanaged the economy so much that Ghana had to fall on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for bailout and credibility.

In addition to the tough times Ghanaians had to go through during the period, taxes were increased on many items including condoms, cutlasses and also a freeze on employment in the public service.

These and many others are the reasons why he believes the former president and his party do not deserve a second chance.

“The presidency is not for nice men or women. It is for doers. People who can make things happen.

“The government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been in office for just about three years and even though there is still a lot to do, any objective assessment of our performance over the last three years will agree that we have performed much better than the situation we inherited at the beginning of 2017,” he said.
