Some personnel of the Ghana Army have asked their superiors to grant them the authority to finish off the killers of Captain Adams Mahama – Quoting verses from the scriptures, the soldiers claimed that even God supports the policy of “an eye for an eye – They also expressed frustration at what they said was the slow pace of the police investigation into the crime. Some personnel of the Ghana Army have appealed to their superiors to grant them the authority to finish off the murderers of their late colleague, Captain Adam Mahama.
The soldiers angrily made the remarks when the chief of defence staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, addressed them at Burma Camp in Accra on Thursday. The objective of the meeting was to impress on the soldiers not take the law into their own hands by avenging the death of their colleague who was killed by a mob at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region. The angry soldiers, however, stressed that was exactly what they wanted to do, a report by citifmonline.com said on Thursday.
Quoting from the Bible and the Quran, the soldiers claimed that even God supported the policy of “an eye for an eye”. “…as a Christian, by what Jesus said in Matthew 26 verse 52, he who draws the sword must die by the sword,” one soldier fired angrily. The soldiers, who were both pained and angered by the gruesome killing of their colleague, expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace of the investigation being conducted by the police.

They were especially angrily at the statement by the police to the effect that they were gathering evidence. They sought to know what evidence the police wanted when, according to them, all the evidence of the crime could be found on the video tapes of Captain Mahama’s killing that have been circulating widely. They also questioned why the military police would not take over the investigation. “It is not in every instance that we allow the civilian police to be telling us about evidence. You have seen something clearly and you are telling me about evidence. “What more evidence do you want from this? The Ghana Armed Forces has the military police. We can handle our things. It is not everything that you take to the civil police,” one soldier said.
Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Obed Akwa
In his address to them, however, the CDS pleaded with them to calm down and refrain from undertaking any reprisal killing. Lieutenant General Obed Akwa reminded them of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s pledge to deal with all the perpetrators of the crime. He assured the military personnel that justice would prevail in the matter.
