Konadu, Tanko or Appiah fit for Black stars job – Odartey Lamptey

Former Ghanaian midfielder, Nii Odartey Lamptey, believes it will be spectacular to give the black stars coaching job to Maxwell Konadu, Ibrahim Tanko or Stephen Appiah.

The ex- Anderlecht man says it will be a step in the right direction to give the Black stars job to an ex-player of the Black Stars and encouraging them to do it to the very best they can.

Coach Avram Grant’s contract with the Ghana Football Association expires in 2017 but he is under threat following a run of five games without a win.

Speaking to Kasapa Sports on Monday, Nii Odartey Lamptey said he believes one of the trio mentioned above can fit in perfectly after the exit of Avram Grant.

“To be honest with you it’s difficult, Maxwell Konadu is there, he has been an assistant for quite some time now, Ibrahim Tanko is also another person who has also been an assistant for the Cameroonian national team as well as Stephen Appiah who is also a former captain of the Black stars and I believe any of the these three can do a perfect job. All they need is encouragement and they can do it”, he said.

In addition, he said there is nothing wrong for an ex-player who has no experience in coaching to coach the Black Stars because it happens elsewhere across the globe. He also said we should stop acting as if, the ex-players are hungry hence we will be doing them favor when the national team is given to them to coach. But we should rather give them the maximum encouragement to do the job.

Avram Grant has been the head coach of the Black Stars since he was appointed in November 2014, and led Ghana to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where they were beaten on penalty shoot-outs by Ivory Coast thus ending the tournament as runners-up.
