A meeting between the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) about the controversial Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) project ended abruptly when a member and chairman started hurling insults at each other.
According to reports, Chairman of the Committee, Kennedy Agyapong prevented a member of the Committee, Sam George from asking questions at the meeting which led to verbal exchanges.
Adom FM’s Parliamentary Correspondent, Abednego Asante Asiedu who was at the meeting reported that, the altercation nearly turned physical.
He indicated that, Committee members looked helpless as Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central engaged in heated exchanges.
Abednego said the meeting to resolve the impasse between GIBA and government ended abruptly after majority of the Committee members boycotted the meeting.
GIBA had petitioned the Committee to look into claims that government intends to hand over the DTT infrastructure to Chinese firm, StarTimes to manage; a claim the Ministry of Communication has denied.
Until the unfortunate incident, they expected the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications to find a lasting solution to the problem.
