IMMEDIATE RELEASE : NATIONAL UNION OF TRICYCLE OPERATORS OF GHANA.
Â
16th June, 2023
Our attention has been drawn to media reports about the decision of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to ban the operations of Tricycle Operations within certain areas of the metropolise
Also another incident of a police arresting a legally license rider with a valid insurance and road Worthy sticker on his machine and his charge was that “tricycle is not legal in Ghana” for commercial use.
It is about time the police and the assemblies realized that we the operators of these machines do not import them into this country , we pay huge revenue’s to the assemblies for our operations and deserve to be treated with dignity in our own country
We encourage the assemblies and the few security officers who take advantage of the legality of our operations to also apply the same yardstick to the online transport system whose vehicles are privately registered and yet operate as commercial since they would not want to appear harassing us
The assemblies should also consider the commercial impact the tricycles operations contribute to their localities and refined their by-laws to meet modern trends
State institution are there for the welfare of the people and not to appear incensitive to the people
We are calling on the government to formalize our operations in the country to save us from the extortions we encounter on daily basis
Finally we also reminding the government to know that allowing us to ride tricycles to make a living is better than sacking us on the roads into galamsey pits.
Thank you.
Signed
