Illegal mining, logging are destroying our forest – Ogyeahohoo laments
The President of the National House of Chiefs, who doubles as the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, has stated that illegal mining and logging activities are destroying forest reserves in the Western North region.
According to him, since the illegal mining and logging have become canker and out of hand, it has also made the cocoa production decline and made our cocoa less quality in the country of which the Western North region is not exempted.
Ogyeahohoo further entreated the various Paramount Chiefs in the region to talk with their sub-chiefs to ensure that illegal mining and logging become a thing of the past.
The President of the National House of Chiefs added that any chief who will entertain these activities will be severely dealt with.
Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi, in an interview, said due to the several numbers of mining companies in Sefwi Wiawso and Anhwiaso traditional territories, no community mining should be encouraged since it would lead to the loss of farmlands in the region.
