The New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has underlined that he will answer to Ghanaians if elected president.
Comparing himself to his chief adversary, former President John Mahama, Bawumia implies that Mahama might not give priority to this kind of accountability.
Speaking on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the NPP International Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, Bawumia emphasized that, in contrast to Mahama, who is not eligible for reelection, he would feel more accountable to Ghanaians as a first-time presidential candidate, especially given his chance for reelection.
“In addition to my demonstrated performance as vice president, diligence, integrity, and forward-thinking outlook for Ghana, I should be elected because I will be more answerable to the Ghanaian people than John Mahama.
“I will be more accountable as president because I will have another chance to pursue the people’s mandate. Mahama won’t be as accountable because he only has one term and won’t go back to Ghana to run for office again.”
Speaking about the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the necessity of a credible leader who has experience dealing with corruption and generational issues.
