Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, who reportedly gave birth two weeks ago, has revealed her baby daddy, whose name she’s kept under wraps, did not propose to her but she agreed to carry his baby.
She revealed in a latest interview in the Wow Magazine, how she didn’t get pregnant for her ex-boyfriend who took her on a trip to Venice on her 30th birthday to propose marriage, but ended up carrying another man’s baby two years later.
Describing her decision as “quite funny”, the actress said her resolve to get pregnant for the current man stemmed from the fact that their bond was mutual, and also was yearning to make babies.
“It’s quite funny because someone proposed and I didn’t even get to have a baby for the person and then this person who hasn’t proposed I’m having a baby for him, so it’s a vibe, it’s friendship, it’s understanding, it’s how happy the person makes you,” she said.
In her estimation, though marriage before making babies is a good thing, it is not always about “someone putting a rock on your finger,” before one could decide to have kids and raise a family.
“It’s good to get married, it’s the right thing to do, but then again if you are a woman and you think you are getting to a certain age and you want to have kids and you meet a responsible guy who hasn’t yet proposed but wants to do the same thing, it depends on you and him,” she told the magazine.

She adds: “You can go ahead and do it, if u think the guy is right and responsible and he makes you happy, why not? Marriage nowadays is just ceremony and a huge wedding”.
Yvonne Nelson who was widely rumoured to be dating another Ghanaian actor John Dumelo, observed society has been so hard on women when it comes to marriage, stating “The whole marriage thing, that name is just so scary”
She indicated that her mum who once pressured her to get married before making babies has now given in on that, and now more concerned about the baby. “She doesn’t pressure me anymore with marriage you know… it’s not like I am engaged or married or anything, it’s just that when it happens, it happens. As a woman, you cannot marry yourself,” she said
Explaining why she did not get pregnant for her ex boyfriend who proposed to her on the eve of her 30th birthday, Yvonne said the man wanted her to relocate to London, something she felt was going to disorganize her life forever.
“I was seeing someone else then and he was an ideal guy and everything. He took me there [Vernice, Italy] for my [30th] birthday and he proposed…
He is somebody I would have loved to have a family with but then he wanted me to move to London. My whole life was going to change because of him and it’s not something you should do, you don’t have to change your whole life because of a man because of your marriage,” she stated.

She said she declined to relocate and called it quits with her ex to see what the future had in store for her because “I had nothing I was doing in the UK” at the time, indicating she kept “praying for someone else to come around.” Definitely, her prayer got answered as God delivered her baby daddy to her, and then came the pregnancy, which she kept from the public eye despite rumours of it in the media.
Yvonne Nelson, who is also a film producer, said she was in London with her man when she discovered she was pregnant, stating “I was so ready I knew this was what I wanted at this moment in my life.
“I pray[ed] to God all the time and I tell Him that I want to start a family and have kids of my own, it was part of my prayers so I just knew that I’m not married but this is what I want to do. So when I did a test and it came out positive, I was truly happy,” she revealed.
But she said the hard part was having to inform her mother, especially so because she once tested the waters and her mum was “so shocked and her first words were ‘but you are not married’ and I replied… ‘yes mum I know’ and then it was a long conversation”.
She said she managed to break the news to her mother, who she said was very supportive throughout her pregnancy, noting, “right now she Is just so happy and so am I.”
