The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection of Ghana seems to have had it with social media.
Otiko Afisa Djaba has indicated that she will permanently delete her Facebook account.
According to the minister, there are some “trouble-makers” who consistently post “unnecessary” things on her Facebook wall. Otiko, who is in the middle of a media war against NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu, was speaking on the Accra-based TV station, Joy TV when she made the revelation. “Social media is the thing but when people abuse it, and deprive poor people of their little income, we have to a measure like that… From today, I’m going to shut down my Facebook account. It’s not right,” she said. Otiko also said some people have created “fake” copies of her account which they used to defraud “innocent” people. In the recent weeks, Otiko has been having a topsy-turvy ride with local media. She made headlines after making allegations against Bugri Naabu. Otiko had stated that Bugri Naabu was constantly asking for money, goats, cows and other things as bribes to gain positions in government. Bugri Naabu however, denied the allegations and accused her of plotting to kill the late NPP’s Upper East regional chairman, Adams Mahama.
