How Captain Mahama will be laid to rest

Monday marks one-week celebration of the untimely and painful murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama. 

The late office was lynched by some residents of Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region of Ghana where he was on assignment as commander of a military detachment to fight illegal mining [galamsey].

The Captain’s gruesome murder has got the whole of Ghana mourning and grieving. The youth of the town, led by the Assemblyman, William Baah mistook the soldier for an armed robber and lynched him on Monday, May 29. 

He will be buried in a special coffin that the Ghana Armed Forces will provide. He will be laid to rest at the military cemetery in Osu, Accra. He will be buried in his military ceremonial uniform. 

He will also receive a 21-gun salute from his colleagues as last respect and solidarity. 

His sword and cap will be placed on his coffin to signify his position as a commissioned officer. 

The coffin will also be wrapped in a Ghana flag, accompanied by guards of honour, drumming and other military idiosyncrasies. 

Finally, the Army will present a folded Ghana flag to his wife to show honour to the late Captain’s spouse and family. 

Meanwhile, in other news during the one-week celebration at the deceased’s residence in Burma Camp, the mother of the deceased army officer, Mrs Veronica Bamford-Addy who was out of the country when the incident occurred has arrived safely in Ghana and cannot hold back her tears.
