A heated exchange erupted between Emeafa Hardcastle, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyir, during a sitting of the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The altercation began when Annoh-Dompreh took offence at Hardcastle’s description of his caucus as “micro” ¹.
Hardcastle’s comment sparked a strong reaction from Annoh-Dompreh, who allegedly threatened to “take her on.” Hardcastle fired back, saying, “You are threatening me that you will take me on because you are who? My friend, don’t bring yourself. What do you mean you are taking me on?” ¹.
The exchange escalated, with Annoh-Dompreh accusing Hardcastle of calling him “silly.” Hardcastle denied using the term, but Annoh-Dompreh vowed to take action, saying, “We will deal with this matter” ¹.
The incident occurred during a delayed vetting session of the Appointments Committee, which was postponed due to allegations made by civil activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor against the committee on social media. The committee chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, expressed disgust over the claim that members of the committee demand bribes from nominees before approving their nomination by the president ².
The committee chairman directed the secretary to issue a summons to the activist to appear before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. The incident highlights the growing tensions in Ghanaian politics and raises concerns about public trust in government bodies ².
