From studio to courtroom: Serwaa Amihere emerges as the newest legal celebrity in Ghana

As social media erupted in pride for Ghana’s newest legal advocate, members of the judiciary, the General Legal Council, prominent members of the Bar, legal scholars and well-wishers from the media and entertainment industry attended the event to celebrate her new status as Esquire.

A Trip Out of the Public Eye

Serwaa, who is well-known for commanding screens as GHOne TV’s host and news anchor, has studied law in secret and graduated from the Ghana School of Law.

She first graduated from Methodist University College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business and Finance degree. She then attended the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to pursue an LLB, where she graduated with second-class upper honours.

Recalling the long nights of studying while juggling her broadcasting responsibilities and her belief that the law could protect the weak and give voice to those who needed it, Serwaa has thanked her family, mentors, and supporters.

She has promised to make responsible use of her position and make a significant contribution to public life, whether it be through public education, advocacy, or legal action.

A Purpose-Driven Powerhouse

Serwaa stands out as a link between the legal system and the general public because of her dual roles as a broadcaster and a lawyer. Her position at GHOne TV, where she reads the prime-time news bulletin and hosts the GH Today morning show, gives her the ability to hold those in positions of authority accountable, simplify complicated legal issues, and magnify calls for justice.

Her accomplishment also acts as motivation, especially for young Ghanaians who want to pursue multiple careers or passions, especially women. It demonstrates that one can transcend disciplinary boundaries with commitment and perseverance.

About Serwaa Amihere

From 2014 to 2018, Serwaa worked for GHOne TV as an assistant producer for State of Affairs. From 2018 to 2022, she was the show’s main producer. She became well-known for hosting the GH Today morning show since 2019 and the Cheers sports and lifestyle show in 2018. She was also a highly sought-after event host.

Serwaa’s impact is indisputable; she was recognised with the 2023 Women’s Choice Awards for Humanitarian and TV Personality of the Year and won three RTP Awards for Best TV Newsreader in 2019, 2020, and 2023.

With a strong emphasis on empowering women, she has worked to improve underprivileged communities through healthcare, business development, and education since establishing the Serwaa Amihere Foundation in 2020.

As an entrepreneur, she promoted corporate fashion and beauty by co-founding the clothing brands Office and Co by SA in 2022 and Oh My Hair / Oh My Nails in 2015.
