E/R: RESIDENTS LAMENT OVER MAD PEOPLE DUMPED IN TOWN.
Residents of Akyem Oda in the Birim Central municipality of Eastern region have shared their frustration that mentally challenged people are putting them through as they suspect them being dumped into the town at dawn by unidentified psychiatric hospitals from Greater Accra.
Some Akyem Oda residents lamenting this issue divulged that the number of mad people have increased tremendously in the municipal capital which according to them are not indigenes of Akyem Oda but are suspected to have been brought from Greater Accra by some unidentified psychiatric hospitals and dumped into the town at dawn.
According to some drivers who work at dawn in Akyem Oda, they have being seeing some container vehicles that comes to the town and stops at vantage points to drop those mad people into the town but couldn’t identify those vehicles with their registration numbers.
They have therefore called on the municipal authorities, chiefs, and government to as a matter of urgency to halt their activities which is causing danger to their lives especially school children who walk along the road to their various schools.
The Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku traditional area; Obrempong Gyamfi Saforokyere II also added to it that this issue of many mad people in Akyem Oda is one of the chiefs in the town’s major problem because it’s giving them bad name meanwhile they are not indigenes of Akyem Oda hence the municipal authorities must do something about it with immediate effect.
The municipal chief executive for Birim Central municipal assembly; Hon. Victoria Adu has also confirmed that the mad people are not from Akyem Oda but rather being dumped into the town by unknown people therefore she will consult the security force in the municipality to stop anyone who tries to dump such people into the town as speculated by the people.
