It has emerged that the action(s) of the members of the Delta Force, a vigilante group associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, last Wednesday, April 5, 2017 was as a result of a promise allegedly made to them by some NPP bigwigs to help free their colleagues who were standing trial in court
Deep throat sources told Today that the members of the Delta Force were given full assurance that their colleagues who were13 in number would be acquitted and discharged.
According to them, the assurance was given when they came to Accra a fortnight ago at the instance of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to find out what their problems were.
But “we were surprised that when we went to the court on that fateful day to take our colleagues home, the sitting judge instead had remanded them into custody,” they said.
One of them who corroborated the story from our source while speaking on radio said it was not their intention to do that by using force to free their colleagues, but they were angry at that time because they foresaw betrayal on the part of their leaders.
One of the members, who gave his name as Ernest when he spoke on Silver FM in Kumasi noted that they had sacrificed their lives since 2008, fighting for the party to win power, only to be told after the party had won power to produce their certificates before they can be employed.

“We have sacrificed our lives to see the party win power, and today Kan Dapaah is asking us to bring our certificates before we can be employed. Where was Kan Dapaah when the party was in opposition for him now to demand our certificates,” he asked?
He subsequently threatened that the members of the Delta would defect from the NPP, and join the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) if the leadership of the party does not keep to their part of the promise they made to them in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
It would be recalled that some 13 members of the Delta Force were arraigned before the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court for manhandling the Ashanti regional security coordinator who was appointed by the president last month.
The group, numbering more than 500, vandalised several things in the office of the security coordinator in the full glare of the Ashanti regional police.
Even though some party stalwarts condemned the act, a few of them including the Assin North Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Kennedy Agyepong, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Antwi Boasiako, who is also known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ openly defended them, daring the National Security Minister, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, and President Akufo-Addo to jail them.
