Nana Akufo-Addo has asked President John Mahama to concede defeat in the presidential polls since, according to him, collated results from majority of the 275 constituencies in the country show that he (Mr Mahama) has lost the election.

At a briefing with the media at his Nima residence in Accra, where hundreds of jubilant party supporters and party bigwigs have converged, the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) said every political party that contested the polls, except President Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has conceded defeat and wondered why the NDC is breaking ranks with an obvious outcome of the polls.
Mr Akufo-Addo said it was only Mr Mahama, being the father of the country, who can diffuse the current tense atmosphere by accepting defeat.
The Electoral Commission is yet to announce the certified results but provisional results collated by Class Media Group from 252 constituencies out of 275 indicate that Mr Akufo-Addo is leading with 54.44% while Mr Mahama is trailing with 43.69%.
The NPP itself claims it has won the presidential race by close to 54%. Despite the opposition party’s confidence of victory, the NDC has also said its flag bearer is ahead of Mr Akufo-Addo and “cruising to victory”.
