Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and NPP flagbearer, has reaffirmed that under his administration, individuals and companies will have a clean tax slate in 2025, ushering in a new tax system.
In his inaugural speech as the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia declared that his administration would implement a new tax system that is beneficial to businesses and will increase the competitiveness of the private sector.
He emphasized the necessity for a new tax system to support his goal of advancing the private sector under his government on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, during a stakeholder interaction with members of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Accra.
“Our tax system has been the same since independence, and it has not helped us, so we have to change it,” stated Dr. Bawumia.
We intend to implement a novel tax structure. To maintain business friendliness and competitiveness, there will be a flat tax system. Under my administration, there will be tax amnesties for individuals and businesses in 2025 to help usher in the new tax system. “Everyone will have a fresh start as we start over,” the Vice President continued, drawing applause from the business sector.
Dr. Bawumia also announced that a human interface in tax audits will no longer exist starting in 2025, under his presidency, as part of his new tax system.
