Out of three candidates, Rex Asanga won with 344 votes, followed by Emmanuel Aphour with 154 votes while the hitherto enthusiastic MCE had 151 votes, coming last in the contest.

Hon. Amiyuure had stated emphatically that he was going to win the race due to his performance as MCE but his loss saw him looking miserably traumatized after results were announced.

Mocked by many as incompetent and dull, Hon. Amiyuure, incurred the wrath of NPP members who are usually heard chastising him for not doing enough in the Bolga Municipality which is also the Upper East Region capital.

Rex Asanga’s recent victory has cemented his dominance over the MCE who lost had lost to him in earlier contests.

The retired teacher looked nearly inconsolable after delegates mercilessly dashed his high hopes.

Recently, the MCE took on journalists in the Upper East Region for not congratulating him for drilling and constructing a mechanized borehole for a clinic in Sokabisi, a suburb of the municipality.

The clinic which serves a large number of residents in the community and neighbouring villages suffered severe challenges of lack of water for over a long period. News reports prior to the provision of the water system suggested nurses and midwives had tough times conducting baby deliveries amidst the unavailability of water.
