Black Stars head coach Avram Grant and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have reached an agreement to mutually part ways. Grant’s two-year contract ended on November 30, 2016 but was extended to February 28, 2017 to allow him handle the Black Stars at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. In a statement on Tuesday, February 7, the GFA said:
- HAPPY MOTHER’S DAYMay 12, 2019
- Best wishes to all Muslims around the worldMay 7, 2019
“Both parties have mutually agreed not to renew the contract upon its expiry”. Grant signed a two-year contract with the Stars on December 1, 2014 and took the team to win Silver at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He failed to at least equal that feat in 2017 in Gabon, where the Stars placed fourth.
The statement signed by Isaac Addo, the Acting General Secretary of the GFA, said Ghana can begin the process of searching and appointing a new coach while “Grant is also at liberty to begin negotiations with prospective employers”.
