A team of taskforce from the National Head quarters of the Ghana Revenue Authority stormed the Kumasi City Mall today to seize products that do not bear GRA – embossed tax stamp .
The exercise later took the Ghana Revenue Authority taskforce to a wholesale and retailing shops within the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti region of Ghana where many non embossed GRA – tax stamp products were seized and conveyed to the Asokwa office of the Ghana Revenue
Authority.
At Abinkyi market, the team discovered that a lot of nontaxed products were stored in a warehouse by Afroconcession Ltd, a company that deals with soft drinks, other beverages and provisions.
It was revealed during the inspection by the Ghana Revenue Authority that most of the beverages stored in most warehouses in the metropolis do not bear tax stamp.
The inspection team cited and seized products like non alcoholic beverages, liquors, sugary products , provisions and many others.
Speaking to newsmen after the inspection, Mr. Spio Abaidoo, team leader of the taskforce made it clear that, the exercise is not meant to disturb only those in the Ashanti Region but would be carried across the entire regions in the Country to enforce the law to every Ghanaian, especially shop owners to assist them generate more funds to the coffers of the Nation.
According to him, acceptance of the tax stamp registration has appreciated this year as compared to last year but indicated that they need to do more to get all products embossed with the tax stamp.
He said, the GRA has to be on their toes in ensuring that at least most products on the market have tax stamp because they observed partial compliance during the inspection today.
He appealed to shop owners to ensure that all their products are taxed and have GRA embossed stamp before is been sold out, this he said will help government generate more money for the betterment of the Nation
