Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has debunked reports that he promised to give $5000 for a win over Rwanda in Ghana’s final Afcon 2017 qualifier on Saturday.
The Black Stars preparations towards the final group clash with the Amavubi was rocked by financial challenges with the Sports Minister insisting the country had no money to buy tickets for foreign-based players to travel for the game.
This development compelled deputy captain Andre Ayew to pay for the tickets of seven of the players to fly for the game.
Reports also emerged the skipper of the team who was in the UAE for a new contract with Al Ahli had promised each player $5000 for a win over the Amavubi.
But according to the 30 year-old forward, he never made that promise.
“I never promised to give each Black Stars players $ 5,000 as winning bonus. It is not true, I never said that,” Gyan told Hot FM.
“I don’t know why someone made that story up because there is no truth in that.”
Ghana’s Sports Minister who has recently fallen out with the Black Stars initially slashed the team’s bonus from $10,000 to $8000 and recently announced a further slash to $2500 if Ghana had won against the Amavubi.
