Nathaniel Dekyi, also known as Nana Nyonwah Panyin IV of Dompim Pepesa in the Western and Multimedia Group Limited, has been found guilty of defaming Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, by a General Jurisdiction High Court in Accra.
In February of this year, the court, headed by His Lordship Richard Apietu, granted the defendants GH₵1,000,000.00 in damages.
In October 2022, Mr. Darko-Mensah brought the two defendants before the court on charges of defamation, requesting that they be fined GH¢1 million for their disparaging remarks about him.
On October 14, 2022, the plaintiff’s attorneys, Parkwood & Mossane, filed the writ of summons.
The plaintiff claimed in his statement of claim that the first defendant is Nana Nyonwah Panyin IV, a.k.a., the self-described chief of Dompim Pepesa. The second defendant, on the other hand, is a corporate company that has been properly registered under Ghanaian law and is involved in the media and entertainment industries.
The plaintiff claims that during the aforementioned interview, the first defendant claimed that the plaintiff and two other government employees had engaged in “galamsey,” or unlawful mining, in the Western Region’s Dompim Pepesa area.
