A Call to Return to Biblical Truth: Addressing the Rise of False Prophets in Ghana's Church
The Church in Ghana is facing a critical challenge. Self-proclaimed prophets and spiritual leaders are emerging, claiming authority that rivals Scripture and even our Lord Jesus Christ.
One notable example is Adom Kyei Duah, who asserts he is the only way to Christ. Such claims demand a response from followers of Christ.
The Centrality of Christ in Christianity
Christianity’s foundational truth is that Jesus Christ alone is the way to the Father. In John 14:6, Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” This statement leaves no room for human mediators between us and God.
The Danger of False Prophets
The Apostle Paul warned against preaching any gospel other than the one we’ve received, stating that even if an angel from heaven does so, they should be accursed (Galatians 1:8). Adom Kyei Duah’s claims and those of similar individuals are a direct contradiction to the Gospel.
Jesus warned about false prophets, saying they would rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect (Matthew 24:24). These individuals often use the name of Christ to promote their own fame, wealth, and control over people.
The Importance of Scripture
The Bible is our final authority, testifying of Christ (John 5:39) and able to make us wise unto salvation (2 Timothy 3:15-17). We must hold fast to the teachings of the Apostles and the early Church Fathers, who upheld the supremacy of Christ and the sufficiency of Scripture.
A Call to Discernment
Ghana’s rich Christian heritage is under threat from wolves in sheep’s clothing. Every Christian must return to the Word of God, testing all things and holding fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
We must be like the Bereans, searching the Scriptures daily to see if what we’re taught is true (Acts 17:11). Honouring pastors and spiritual leaders is important, but no man should replace Christ’s place in our lives.
Let’s reaffirm our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord, Saviour, and only Mediator. Trust in His finished work on the cross, His resurrection, and His continual intercession for us. Don’t look to men for salvation or spiritual direction; look to Christ, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
If you’re part of Adom Kyei Duah’s ministry or similar groups, we urge you to seek the truth in the Word. Don’t be swayed by charismatic words or dramatic claims. Christ is enough (Colossians 2:6-7). Let’s walk faithfully in Him and warn others in love, so no one is led away by false teachings.
As Rev. Emmanuel Boachie emphasises, we must contend earnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3). This faith doesn’t need to be reinvented or redefined by self-styled prophets. Let’s stand firm in the truth of the Gospel, rooted and built up in Christ.
