Majority of Ghanaians are not happy with the performance of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his entire government for the first two years that they have been governing the country, a new poll has found.
Despite government claiming to have achieved a lot within two years, as many as 58 per cent of 1,035 people sampled across the country in the poll conducted by iPoll in partnership with TV3 said they were not satisfied with the performance of the government.
According to them, the government “has failed to satisfy the majority of Ghanaians”.Interestingly, majority of the respondents, representing 52 per cent, said they voted for the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 general elections.
The poll, conducted to assess the public’s view of the performance of the government and some of its top appointees after two years in office, only 40 per cent of respondents said they are satisfied with the performance of the Akufo-Addo government.
January 7, 2019 marked exactly two years since Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn in as President of Ghana having won the 2016 presidential election on December 7. On the occasion of the anniversary, the respondents were asked whether they approve of how he, his government and some of his key appointees have performed.
Again a significant number of Akufo-Addo’s key appointees received negative approval rating although some of them, including the Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Minister of Energy and Petroleum, were rated as having performed “satisfactorily” in the eyes of voters.
The leadership of parliament, however, received more favourably ratings with the Speaker, the
Majority and Minority leaders all scoring net positive approval ratings above 50 per cent.
Also 72 per cent of the respondents who were asked whether they approve of how the Minority leader in parliament Haruna Iddrisu is performing his duties answered in the positive with only 25 per cent saying No.
In the case of the Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu 56 per cent of the respondents answered yes and 35 per cent No with only 10 per cent saying they did not know if he is performing his duties well or otherwise.
Speaker Prof. Mike Ocquaye had 52 per cent of the respondents saying they were satisfied with his performance with just 41 per cent saying No.
