Kumasi: Class 3 pupil causes arrest of teacher for caning her

A primary 3 pupil of the Charity Preparatory School at Bremang UGC in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti region caused a stir today when she caused the arrest of her class teacher, Paul Takyi for caning her.

The girl stormed out of school and went straight to the Kronum Police Station to lodge a complaint that her teacher has flouted the ban on corporal punishment in school by beating her with a cane.

Two Community Police Assistants were immediately dispatched to the school to cause the immediate arrest of the said teacher.

The matter was then referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), where the caution statement of the teacher was taken before he was granted bail.

Headmaster of the school, Edward Akanzu-Ise, who confirmed the incident to angel news said the teacher has is now traumatized and has been weeping since he was released.

He expressed shock that a girl of that age could take such an action against her teacher, though he admitted that the teacher actually gave her 3 strokes of the cane.

However, an international child rights organization, Defence for Children International, DCI, has praised the girl for standing up for her rights, against all the odds.
