There has been a significant seizure of banned prescription drugs in Nalerigu by the Northeast Regional Police Command and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).

Officers arrested six suspects after finding 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, also known as Red, hidden in a vehicle.

The operation took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Gbintri, near Nalerigu. Suspects include Abdulai Shakur, Moses Ayorik, Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Mumuni Iddrisu, and Mumuni Yakubu.

Two (2) trucks bearing the registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 were halted on September 21, according to police, after intelligence indicated they were transporting prohibited chemicals. According to reports, the vehicles were on their way to Gbintri after being loaded from Sankase in the Republic of Togo.

After a diligent examination, it was discovered that the vehicle with registration number GR 1712-16 contained 1,195 boxes of 120 mg Tramadol Hydrochloride, discreetly concealed among other items. Since then, the confiscated objects have been preserved as evidence.

The suspects admitted during initial questioning that the shipment was intended to be delivered to Moses Ayorik in Gbintri, who would then forward it to another contact in Gushegu.

All six suspects are presently in jail and cooperating with continuing investigations, according to police confirmation. Authorities also disclosed that they are stepping up their attempts to find and arrest additional people they suspect of being connected to the illegal shipment.

The North East Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to fighting drug trafficking and making sure that prohibited substances do not enter neighbourhoods and jeopardise public safety and health.
