39-year-old Philomena Agyarko and her family had the shock of their lives when they returned home from work to the spectacle of their landlord ripping off the roof of their two-bedroom apartment at Sowutuom in the Ga Central Municipality of the Greater Accra region.

According to the victim, the landlord took the action without any court order whatsoever.

“It is sad for a property owner to destroy his house just because he wants the tenant out,” Mrs Agyarko fumed.

The case is in the hands of Sowutuom Police and investigations are ongoing as the suspect has been granted bail.

The Sowutuom incident confirms reports of how some landlords and ladies deploy violent means to evict tenants who fall out of favour.
