NewsBibiani: NPP delegates decides to endorse Obeng Boateng as their next parliamentary candidate

Alfred-Obeng-Boateng Former Managing Director of BOST

Over the weekend Mr. Alfred Obeng Boateng, the former MD of BOST visited all the electoral areas in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency to clear some mischievous propaganda his opponents have been peddling about him.

His arrival at the various electoral areas clearly shows that NPP has already secured one seat for 2020 parliamentary elections. At one-point Mr. Obeng wept because he said he didn’t know his people love him like that and promised them of working hard to ensure that in the next 10 years poverty will be reduced drastically in the area.

He told them his plans for them by bringing investors and getting them loans from international sources to build more entrepreneurs like himself.

“God didn’t create us here to be poor but due to bad leadership and lack of visionary leaders to assist our people to realise their potentials has been the cause of the extreme poverty and hardships our people are going through but let me assure you all that, there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

The delegates said they were very worried because if he (Mr. Obeng) does not contest for the seat in 2020 then, they will have no option than to vote for the NDC candidate because they have no other choice. They also asked him to respond to some allegations that he did not do national service, he does not vote in the constituency, he has abandoned his plans of contesting NPP primaries and others.

Mr. Obeng in his response stated categorically that his opponents do not have the legal knowledge and unfortunately, they don’t have time to read the 1992 Constitution to understand the qualifications to become a Member of Parliament. He said, for example, national service is not one of the qualifications to become an MP.

Touching on the disqualification, he explained that disqualifying a person from contesting an election is a serious decision that cannot be taken anyhow because of a sitting MP’s wishes and interest. He said that only people with proper criminal records (those who have been convicted by a criminal court with competent jurisdiction but not those sentenced by the court of public opinion).

He said disqualifying a party member like my caliber from contesting a seat because of the sitting MP’s interest will never happen in our great party (that believes in a democracy). He told them to ignore such noise and tell his opponents that they should continue deceiving themselves and at the right time, they will understand that the party does not belong to one family in the constituency.

In conclusion, he told them to inform him immediately if his opponents come around to make any false statements to respond quickly. He thanked them for the confidence reposed in him and assured them that he will never let them down.
