The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration to encourage students to sharpen their skills in arithmetic and problem solving.
As part of activities to commemorate this day, students and staff of Owerriman SHS, under the Asante Akim North Educational Directorate organized series of activities.
Under the leadership of the Headmaster of the School, Mr. Alexander Appiah Agyei, Mr Ernest Owusu Boateng, the Assistant Headmaster – Academic, and Mr Denteh Akwasi, Head of Mathematics Department, an inter-house competition was organized among the four(4) Houses of the school. This saw students participating in solving arithmetic questions and questions on practical activities in Mathematics.

Elvis Frimpong – House Four (4) emerged as winners of the quiz competition.
Nana Afoakwa – House Three (3), Dr. Adomako Kwabia – House Two (2) and Nana Afrakomah – House One (1), took the second, third and fourth positions respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Alexander Appiah Agyei emphasized the need to do away with fear of the subject.
He encouraged students to see mathematics as one of the many other subjects and develop interest in it.
He commended Miss Rebecca Marfo, the only female Mathematics tutor of the school and advised students, especially the females to take her as their icon in learning the subject.
He reiterated the connections between Mathematics and all sort of fields, concepts, ideas and real life situations.
This year’s International Day of Mathematics was under the theme, “Mathematics Unites”.
The day’s event was climaxed with a float on the principal streets of Domeabra, Asante Akim after which students and teachers reverted to classroom for teaching and learning to continue.
