KMA highly indebted to Sofoline Drivers association- Chairman

Executives of Sofoline Drivers Association under Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU) are still pushing for the payment of outstanding debt of GH 38,465.00 from authorities of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

Executives are making claims that the assembly (KMA) is indebted to them on the above quoted sum since 5th September 2017 and that the failure on the part of the latter to settle the debt despite repeated demands has incurred an accumulated interest of GH 5,000.00.

Chairman for the Association has indicated that the unpaid amount of money covers expenses the association incured on the construction of the current Sofoline lorry terminal which was then under the jurisdiction of the assembly.

Chairman Albert K. Boamah disclosed during an interview with this medium that as a way of meeting the deadline which was set by Authorities of World Bank, agreement was reached between authorities of the Assembly and Executives of the association that the latter will assist financially to speed up the construction of the project.

Chairman Boamah claimed that they assisted the contractor with a physical cash of GH 20,000 for the purchase of laterite to fill up the area including other expenses.

He recalled that there was a time he personally bought eight gallons of diesel from Asuoyeboh Total Filling station to power earth moving machinery meant for constructional works of the terminal.

He made an indication that all expenses were totalled and submitted to authorities of KMA for payment.

He expressed anger that till now, the assembly has made no attempt whatsoever to pay back the money to them.

“Authorities of KMA have deliberately refused to settle the debt despite several demands. They should not forget that we gave out our money for the construction of the terminal upon request made by KMA. It wasn’t a free will offering.
