The Ghana Police Service has been given complete command over security at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) November 4 presidential primary.
Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, the Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Election Committee, claims that anyone attempting to taint the elections will be dealt with by the police.
During a stakeholder meeting in Accra with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Prof. Ocquaye stated that they anticipate calm elections.
We are giving you permission to seize total authority over every procedure you oversee during our republic’s regular elections. We want to demonstrate that this is a legitimate country, so we have made a number of guidelines that are a matter of common consent and worked out the dynamics so that we are working together. We are saying this to assure you that the regulations that the candidates have all signed will be the process’s blueprint, and anyone who disobeys this should be dealt with.
In the meantime, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, issued a request for collaboration to guarantee the conscientious performance of their responsibilities.
