Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has cautioned against unjustly accusing the President Nana Addo Dankwa  Akufo-Addo of corruption in the matter of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) which has led to the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

A documentary titled ‘Contracts for sale’ which was produced by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni uncovered potential conflict of interest and corruption in the award of contracts to a company called Talent Discovery Limited and subsequent sale of the contracts to by the company.

Commenting on the issue on TV3’s news analysis show The Key Points monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the former Presidential Spokesperson under President John Evan’s Attah Mills said scandals in some cases happen on the blind side of the Presidency.

“When I was at the Presidency, there were times you would just wake up in the morning and you are hit by a scandal and you would have to respond. The President has responded like he should do though some were expecting a total sack. Due process would also have to be followed because we have the rule of law. Let’s follow the due process,” he remarked.

According to him, it may not be justified for the President to be accused of wrong doing when appointees engage in scandalous activities.

“It will be unfair to say the President had a hand in it. It is the sovereign risk for me that is the bigger problem [that] we end up destroying that entity and that image called Ghana. How many people know about Agyei? How many people know about the PPA? Now out there it is a scandal hitting the republic of Ghana. Let’s begin to think through and protect this entity called Ghana” he said.
