Delta Forces’ ‘nonsense’ couldn’t have happened under Kofi Boakye – Analyst

A Security Analyst, Henry Tuffour is confident that the impunity carried out by the pro-ruling NPP Vigilante group, Delta Force in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital cound not have happened if COP Kofi Boakye were still to be the Regional Police Commander.

Thirteen members of the group who had been remanded into prison custody and to appear on 20th April 2017 after attacking the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Agyei about a month ago, escaped from the Kumasi Circuit Court on Thursday with the help of their colleagues after the court proceedings.

The suspects bolted through the back door of the Court building which is used only by the Judge after the assaulted the Judge.

Eight persons suspected to have aided the 13 suspects to escape have also been arrested and are in police custody.

Stoutly built members of Delta Force had previously stormed the Regional Coordinating Council and forcibly ejected Mr. Agyei because he is not a native of the Ashanti Region. It took the timely intervention of the police to save the situation and restore law and order.

The angry men had earlier destroyed some office equipment in their bid to drive out Mr Agyei.
Their action was roundly condemned by a large section of the public who called for their arrest. Less than 24 hours after the act, the leader of the group Kwadwo Bamba was arrested by the Police.

Other members were subsequently arrested and charged for the offence of conspiracy to assault and assaulting a public officer and causing unlawful damage.

But speaking to Kasapa News, Henry Tuffour said, COP Kofi Boakye’s ‘no nonsense’ attitude which kept the Ashanti region stable during his tenure of office would have been enough deterrent to the Delta Force members to stop their thuggery.

“It would have been really difficult for this incident to happen if COP Nathan Kofi Boakye were to still be the Regional Police Commander. The current Regional Police Commander must rise up to the challenge and do his work efficiently. It is sad that these ruffians were allowed to go into a court and release their colleagues who we were standing trial. The court is near the Regional Police Command so how is this possible that the police failed to pickup any intellegence and beef up security at the court.”

He added: “I sending a clear signal to the NPP leadership, Ashanti Region is known to be the party’s stronghold, if the party does not step in to deal with the indiscipline and criminal acts being perpetrated by its members, then the rest of Ghanaians will conclude that they sanction the unruly behaviour of their supporters and that will not be good for this country.”
