The reopening date of Monday, December 4, 2023, for First-Year Senior High School pupils has been confirmed by the Ministry of Education.
This timetable corresponds with the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) academic calendar for the 2023–2024 school year and is applicable to both single-track and double-track systems.
A few guardians and parents have bemoaned the short preparation period and asked the GES to reevaluate a good time for the newcomers.
The Ministry notes that parents had plenty of time to make the appropriate arrangements, even if some expressed concerns regarding the short notice period that followed the announcement of school placements. The academic calendar was made available many weeks in advance.
Students who are unable to report on the first day would not immediately forfeit their spots, according to Kwasi Kwarteng, the Ministry’s spokesperson, giving them flexibility to arrive later in the day or week.
The date of the students’ return is still Monday, December 4, 2023, within the SHS premises. On the first day, it is expected that pupils will report. However, I want to immediately clarify that first-year students who are unable to report on the first day will not automatically forfeit their spots.”
