Dec polls: Vote beyond good looks-Samira

Bawumia, wife of the vice presidential candidate of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaians to vote beyond fanciful features on elections day.
Asked by host Bella Mundi on Rhythmzlive ONE on ONE on GH One if Ghanaians are still in that period of voting based on beauty or not, she said, ‘Well I don’t know but I hope not, I think we should look beyond the fancy stuffs  and go down to what would work for us’.
She indicated that most people are suffering due to the harsh economic conditions in the country.
The former Minister of Justice  and Attorney General Betty Mould Iddrisu and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called on Ghanaians to vote for ‘handsome’ President Mahama whilst others have stated that beauty counts when its comes to elections.
Samira questioned why some people vote on beauty urging Ghanaians to rather concentrate on policies that will change the fortunes of the country and their lives.
Reacting to insults rained on her for purportedly speaking ill of the President John Mahama, she said’ I think people should start respecting the views of other people. I have never insulted him, I don’t insult people, not all people are going to praise you when you are in government, if all is good lets not vote then, we think that we can do things differently that is why we are putting ourselves for the jobs and asking Ghanaians to vote for NPP, it was a made up story. I never insulted anybody’.
She wondered why people tend to attack women when they try to debate issues challenging her accusers to prove their claim.
Mrs Bawumia indicated that she is focused on fighting for the voiceless and cannot be stopped by insults urging Ghanaians to step out in their numbers to vote for the NPP in the December polls.
‘Lets arise for change, lets be part of the change we have been talking about, as young people we have lots of issues affecting us and its government that can make things better so lets be part of that process that chooses our government. Of course we want peaceful election, we want everybody to play their part, its our civic responsibility, we are supposed to be peaceful and ensure that institutions would work so that the peace will prevail. But I believe in Nana Addo and the NPP so join me, lets vote them into power,’ she said.
