Asante Akyem North: MP Sue Constituents For Asking Him For Accountability

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi has filed a legal suit against two of his constituents for requesting him to account for his share of the MP’s Common Fund on a local radio network Fire FM stationed in Agogo.

One of the defendants, Hon. Peter Abaje who is the Assembly Member for Ananekrom Electoral Area in the Asante Akyem North District quizzed the MP to show what he has used his share of the common fund for since his assumption as the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency.

According to Hon. Abaje, the MP has so far received about 8 trenches of the common fund and yet cannot point to a single project in the constituency to his credit. He made this remarks on Fire FM in reaction to the MP, Andy Appiah-Kubi who had earlier falsely accused Hon. Peter Abaje and two other assembly members as those sabotaging the efforts of the District Assembly to flush out the nomadic Fulani herdsmen on the same network.

According to the MP, Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi, this constant request from Hon. Abaje to account for his common fund is denting his image as MP and has led to him losing touch with his constituents. He is therefore seeking for the court to gag Hon. Peter Abaje from his constant request to get him account for his share of the common fund and request for damages of GHC200,000.

Andy Appiah-Kubi is also seeking the court to claim damages of GHC100,000 from the second defendant, Prince Kwaku Baah, the Presenter who hosted Hon. Abaje at Fire FM and granted him the interview which led to Hon. Abaje’s request for accountability from him.

The defendants have eight working days to enter appearance at the Kumasi High Court and we will follow this suit to its logical conclusion.
