Alisson: Liverpool complete £65m world-record transfer of Roma goalkeeper

LIVERPOOL have completed the world record £65m signing of Alisson from Roma.

Alisson, 25, becomes the most expensive keeper on the planet as the fee eclipses the £34.7m that Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson last summer.
He will replace Loris Karius as the Reds’ No. 1 after the German’s calamitous performance in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.Karius gifted the Spanish giants two goals in the 3-1 defeat for the Reds.Kop boss Jurgen Klopp backed Karius to recover from the howlers but he has been wanted to sign Alisson for some time. The Reds first registered their interest back in January with Roma but were informed it would take a massive offer to take him from the Serie A side.

Roma were not in a position that they desperately needed to sell and they also did not want to let him go cheaply after being left frustrated at the price they sold Mohamed Salah’s last summer.

Liverpool managed to get the Egyptian ace for £36.7m which was soon dwarfed by huge figures when Neymar left Barcelona for PSG in a £200m deal.

Salah then went on to have a stunning debut season for the Reds during which he scored 44 goals.

Both Real Madrid and Chelsea were also interested in Alisson but Liverpool swooped first to agree a fee after they decided he was worth the huge fee, which significantly reduced from January.

They had a bid of around £62m rejected on Tuesday before sporting director Michael Edwards continued negotiations on Wednesday. Both clubs came to an agreement which will see Liverpool pay around £56m up front plus a further £9m in add-ons.A small percentage of the £56m will go to Alisson’s first club Internacional in Brazil.Alisson arrived on Merseyside on Wednesday night before undergoing a medical earlier today.

He jetted back to Italy tonight where he will resume his holiday before linking up with his new team-mates for a four-day pre-season training camp in France on July 30.
