The deceased had a serious wound on the left side of his neck and was lying still when the cops arrived.

After being inspected, the body was transported to the St Anthony Hospital mortuary in Dzodze for autopsy and preservation.

According to police sources, the suspect later showed up at the Ehi Police Station with a cutlass, claiming to be fleeing a crowd. He was taken into prison to aid in investigations.

But when angry young people attacked the police station and demanded the suspect’s release, tensions increased. When the police refused, the mob turned violent, hurling stones at the building and shattering its roof.

To restore order, Chief Superintendent William Gyamfi, the District Commander, and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Habada, the District Crime Officer, quickly organised a patrol squad.

But when they arrived, efforts to defuse the situation had failed, and the young people had become more violent, hurting G/Constable Foster Adu and Inspector Augustine Tawiah with stones.

Later, both officers were taken to the Sab-Dave Hospital in Dzodze to receive medical attention.

A stray bullet is said to have hit an unidentified woman during the disturbance, but police attempts to save her were thwarted by the crowd, who also blocked the Ehi–Penyi main route to stop additional police reinforcements.

When the mob used fuel to set the Ehi Police Station on fire, the situation worsened even more, forcing both the suspect and the cops to escape for their lives.

Divisional Command reinforcements arrived, but the police facility was destroyed by fire after a tactical retreat due to relentless attacks.

While investigations into the suspected murder and the ensuing violent disturbances proceeded, police confirmed that the suspect, Kofi Agbavitor, was presently receiving medical care under guard at the St Anthony Hospital at Dzodze.

In the meantime, the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), Rev. Martin Amenaki, issued a press release in which he expressed profound sympathy for the unfortunate events and vehemently denounced the acts of violence and destruction that took place.

He emphasised that mob justice was illegal and threatened the nation’s efforts to maintain the rule of law.

According to Rev. Amenaki, MUSEC has implemented prompt measures to restore peace and protect locals in cooperation with the Ghana Police Service and other security organisations.

While investigations were ongoing, he urged the youth of Ehi and the surrounding towns, as well as traditional authorities and opinion leaders, to maintain composure and assist security agents.

The Ketu North Municipal Assembly remains dedicated to upholding justice for all, preserving peace, and safeguarding people’s lives and property, Rev. Amenaki reassured the public.
