The Fulani Youth Association of Ghana (FUYAG) has cautioned people attacking Fulbe communities to desist else they will also gear up to face them equally.

The president of the Association Mr Ahmed Barry speaking during a joint press conference organized by
Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Tabital Pulaaku International and Fulani to address an urgent and concerning issue that has plagued our nation which is violence
between Fulanis and some natives of towns and villages across the country especially in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Eastern Region, Ashanti Region, Oti etc.

He noted with deep sorrow that within a year, over 50 innocent Fulanis have been killed and it seems the security agencies are showing less concern about the incident therefore giving them no option than to retaliate when the needs arise.

To prevent that, he has called on the president of land and his vice, First and Second ladies of the land to intervene.

He noted that as the country puts in more efforts to prevent terrorist attack within the boarders of the land it has become very necessary to avert it.

National Council of Fulani Chiefs, Ghana National Association of
Cattle Farmers, and Women in Small Scale Livestock Breeding, to act swiftly in resolving this matter as a matter of urgency to prevent any unforeseen circumstances since the youth are also boiling you to attack, there are dark days ahead.

Mr Ahmed Barry aside previous attacks that claimed many lives of their people, there has been recent attacks which include on 25th May, 2023 a village by name Sherigu a suburb of Bolga district was attacked resulting in the displacement of over 170 women and children who are currently at the Bolga Sports Stadium.

At t Tongo in the Talensi district 3 Fulani’s have been lynched to death by a nearby village called Tarkwa and Kejetia and intelligence has it that they are planning to attack Fulbe communities in and around their villages.

The president of FUYAG said “as we speak information reaching us indicates effect that 2 persons have been killed at Tongo”

Over 6 people killed with two weeks in the Northern part of the country.

Currently, that area is a hyper area in terms of conflict and series of attacks for instance Bawku where there currently is a curfew in place.

Empressed disappointment in the security agencies ” we are becoming disappointed very disappointed because when it’s against the Fulanis they don’t show much concern why are we not Ghanaians? He quized.

It is worth noting also that this geographic location is very close to Burkina Faso where terrorist attacks are prevalent so quick action is indeed needed.

We will continue to urge all stake holders to stand up to the task to prevent further attacks and retaliation.
