One of the greatest problems in the Dormaa East District is illegal small scale mining (Galamsey), Hon Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, DCE,  and the District divisional Police command have combined effort in diverse ways to help curb the situation but some people have turned a deaf ear to this.

Yesterday, The Hon DCE, Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman, joined an operation to the Galamsey sites at Dormaa Akwamu. An anti Galamsey team from Sunyani and the district divisional commander at Dormaa Municipal (who doubles as an interim commander for Wamfie ) conducted the operation. The excessive engagement of the youth of the community in the act necessitated the need for the operation.

In the end, the task force arrested four people from different Galamsey sites. Hon. Kofi Agyeman, DCE, thanked the commanders and their respective teams and advocated for consistency in this operation. There has been a rise in reported malaria cases at the District Hospital lately. Most Galamsey pits within the District have been left open making it a breeding grounds for mosquitoes. This, partly, is the cause of the menace.
